“We didn’t hear any explosions.” The South African delegation claims that today’s shelling of Kyiv is untrue

South African news outlet News24, citing Vincent Magwenya, an aide to President Cyril Ramaphosa, asserts that the delegation from South Africa, currently visiting Kyiv, denies the fact of today’s Russian missile attack on the capital.

The publication states that the assistant to the head of South Africa has refuted the statements made by the official authorities of Kyiv regarding another threat of Russian shelling, calling it “disinformation and falsehood.”

According to him, he and his colleagues allegedly did not hear any explosions and stated that the Ukrainian authorities are “escalating the situation.”

“We arrived when the so-called explosion happened. I filmed a video from the hotel here in Kyiv. It’s very strange that we didn’t hear or see any explosion. Clearly, some deliberate disinformation is being spread,” stated Magwenya.

In his opinion, if the threat had really existed, people would not have been able to easily leave the shelters and go about their usual activities.

“And we didn’t hear any explosions. Instead, we saw people calmly continuing their day. Based on what we’ve experienced so far, everything seems normal,” summarized Ramaphosa’s aide on Twitter.

On the morning of June 16th, the South African delegation set off for Kyiv to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky, and in the evening, the African leaders will head to Russia for a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

UPDATED at 20:30. During a press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ramaphosa stated that the Russian missile strikes witnessed by him today ‘do not contribute well to establishing peace.’

“Today, during our visit, we heard missile strikes. Such actions do not contribute to the establishment of peace. Therefore, we emphasize the need for de-escalation from both sides in order for peace to prevail and for the issue to be resolved,” he said.
