The Pentagon has confirmed that Ukraine has already received cluster munitions from the United States, and they expect that the situation on the battlefield will change with the arrival of Abrams tanks in the fall.
On July 13, during a briefing, American Lieutenant General Douglas Sims, Director of Operations of the Joint Staff, confirmed this, as reported by Politico journalist Lara Seligman.
“A senior U.S. general confirmed that American cluster munitions have already arrived in Ukraine,” the journalist announced.
The Pentagon spokesperson also stated that the conditions on the battlefield are currently ‘likely not ideal’ for the Ukrainian forces to use F-16 fighter jets.
He emphasized that this situation could change, but the Russians possess a ‘significant’ air defense system.
On the other hand, according to him, the arrival of M1 Abrams tanks, scheduled for the fall, will ‘undoubtedly change the situation on the battlefield.’
Today, the commander of the Defense Forces in the Tavria direction, Alexander Tarnavsky, stated that Ukraine has already received cluster munitions from the United States but has not yet used them.
