Poland has started building an electronic barrier on the border with Russia

The electronic barrier is being constructed on the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast of the Russian Federation to improve border control. The Minister of Interior of the country, Mariusz Kaminski, announced this at a press conference on Tuesday. This information was reported by “European Truth” with reference to RMF 24.

Construction of an electronic barrier on the Polish-Russian border has begun. The work will be completed in the autumn of this year. We will have full monitoring of what is happening on the border with Russia,” said Kaminski.

The electronic barrier, which is a system of cameras and motion sensors, will be installed along 199 kilometers of the border. It will cover the entire land border with Russia, except for the Vistula Spit, where electronic devices have been guarding the border for several years.

The protective barrier area will be divided into twelve functional sections. Approximately 2,000 poles will be installed for video surveillance, along with 3,000 video cameras and 700 km of power, transmission, and signal cables.

As Kaminskiy assured, the barrier on the border with Russia will be “incredibly modern” – just like the one on the border with Belarus.

“Our eastern border, I am convinced, will be excellently prepared for any illegal actions associated with crisis situations with our eastern neighbors. I believe that it will be the best-protected border in the European Union,” the minister said.

More than 373 million zlotys (over $83 million), including 42 million zlotys (over $9 million) for strengthening the relief on certain sections of the border, have been allocated for the construction of an electronic barrier.”

The spokesperson of the Border Service, Lieutenant Anna Mikhal’ska, reported that construction work has started in the area of the border checkpoints in Bezledy and Sempopol.

The first works on the border road strip involve pouring the foundation for observation cameras’ poles and laying power and transmission cables.

The electronic border fence with Russia is being constructed based on the Law on the construction of state border security facilities.

This law came into effect on November 4, 2021. It was adopted in response to migration pressure on the Polish-Belarusian border.

Starting from November of last year, the Polish army set up a temporary barrier of barbed wire on the Polish-Russian border.

In February, Poland began to construct anti-tank obstacles on the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region.
