“Nobody in the world has done this”: Shmyhal announced a unique defense of Ukraine’s energy

According to the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine will strengthen the air defense of its energy infrastructure before the start of winter. This will be a unique defense system that humanity has never seen before. The Prime Minister made this statement during the “Future of Ukrainian Energy” forum.

Shmyhal promises a unique defense for Ukraine’s energy

The head of the government emphasized that Ukraine’s air defense has become even more comprehensive and experienced.

“We continue to work on its development. By winter, it will be even stronger, more robust, and more effective,” said the Prime Minister.

Denys Shmyhal also reminded that in 2022, Ukraine did not have Patriot, NASAMS, IRIS-T, SAMP-T, or many other systems. It is important to understand that Ukraine has already established a multi-level defense for energy facilities, both passive and active.

“Ukraine is working on projects that no one in the world has done before,” explained the head of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Furthermore, work on decentralizing the energy system is ongoing. Denys Shmyhal sincerely thanked international partners for swift decisions that have strengthened the capacity and resilience of our state. Partners have provided $2.3 billion for the restoration and protection of the energy sector. We have also expanded the capacity for importing electricity from the EU by more than twice, from 500 MW to 1200 MW,” said the Prime Minister.

According to Denys Shmyhal, as of today, more than 80% of the main networks have been successfully repaired. Another positive factor that cannot be ignored is the reduction in the number of missiles in the aggressor country. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers emphasizes that the aggressor’s capability to produce them is significantly lower than one would hope for.

In August 2023, Centrenergo began constructing protective structures at its thermal power plants (TPPs) to secure them against Russian attacks.

“They plan to safeguard the operation of the thermal power plants in the event of ongoing Russian attacks by using protective structures. At the Trypillya TPP, 100% of the work on their arrangement has already been completed, and at the Zmiiv TPP, it stands at 70%,” the statement said.
