French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Joe Biden hope that all G7 countries will agree on a $50 billion fund for Ukraine, sourced from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets. The French leader announced this at a joint press conference with the U.S. President in Paris.
According to Macron, both he and Biden hope that all G7 members will agree on a $50 billion solidarity fund for Ukraine.
The French President also described the upcoming Global Peace Summit in Switzerland as a “critical stage.”
“Regarding the Ukrainian issue, as I have already said, we are aligned: respect for international law, the freedom of peoples to determine their future through self-determination. And thank you for standing by Europe,” the French leader said to the U.S. President.
These $50 billion will be obtained from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets (about $280 billion), and the G7 countries have agreed on this, Bloomberg reported at the end of May. The final decision will be made during the meeting on June 13-15.
