German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall has received an order from the Federal Republic of Germany to deliver 25 Leopard 1A5 tanks to Ukraine in 2024.
What is known about the delivery of Leopard 1?
According to the company’s announcement, the Ukrainian government has signed a contract with Rheinmetall for the delivery of Leopard 1 systems.
The agreement includes 25 main battle tanks Leopard 1A5, five armored recovery vehicles (Bergepanzer 2), and two training tanks.
The order, funded by Germany and amounting to a two-digit million-euro sum, also covers training, logistics, spare parts, technical maintenance, and other support services.
Delivery is scheduled for 2024. Currently, Leopard 1 systems are undergoing major repairs and preparation for use at Rheinmetall facilities in Unterlüß and Kassel.
Thus, Rheinmetall continues to support Ukraine with regular deliveries of tactical vehicles. Previously, the group was tasked with supplying Ukraine with 80 infantry fighting vehicles Marder, most of which are already in the country and have demonstrated their resilience in ongoing operations.
German Rheinmetall to produce 100,000 munitions for Ukraine
The contract involves the supply of approximately 100,000 120mm artillery shells. The agreement is part of a military aid package worth 400 million euros for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Deliveries are expected to start soon and will continue over the next two years.
As a result, the average delivery volume may amount to slightly more than 4,000 shells per month.
The company reported that thanks to the recent acquisition of the Spanish munitions manufacturer Expal, Rheinmetall has further strengthened its already extensive experience in the field of infantry fire support.
The group’s product range includes a full spectrum of 120mm, 81mm, and 60mm mortar ammunition. They are complemented by fire control systems and mortar systems, such as the 120mm mortar Ragnarök and the innovative 60mm mortar system RSG60, as reported by Rheinmetall.
