Yuriy Ignat, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, called on Ukrainians not to worry about the fate of the Patriot air defense system, commenting on the broadcast of a telethon about its alleged damage by a Russian missile “Kinjal.”
“Don’t worry about the fate of the ‘Patriot’. Patriot is a complex of batteries, divisions, a system… Everyone calls it differently, and nobody can really understand what it consists of,” Ignat said.
He explained that a division is a command post where the combat machinery tracks aerial targets, receives information about the air situation in its area of responsibility, and engages with aerial targets. It can operate in manual, semi-automatic, and automatic modes.
“It was in the automatic mode of operation that the Patriot was able to shoot down aerial targets without human intervention, as was the case that night,” Ignat recounted.
Additionally, the Patriot system features a radar that provides information and is located at a distance from the battery.
Finally, the Patriot system has up to eight launcher stations, each containing four transport-launch containers, which are also positioned at specific distances and enable operational missile launches.
“This is precisely what the Patriot is for. It is impossible to destroy the system with some ‘Kinjal’ missiles. Therefore, let everything they claim remain in the archive of their propaganda,” said the spokesperson of the Air Force.
On the morning of May 16th, the head of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, stated that Russia attacked Ukraine with 18 missiles, six of which were the X-47 ‘Kinjal.’ The air defense system successfully intercepted all targets. You can learn more here: https://www.zatuschok.com/8230/
