The Russian troops do not cease their attempts to capture Kup’yansk in the Kharkiv region. Nevertheless, the occupiers haven’t achieved any strategic successes in this direction.
What is the aim of the Russian army on the Kup’yansk direction?
Major General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated that Ukrainian military forces are providing a worthy defense against the Russian occupiers and thwarting their attempts to advance.
He mentioned that the enemy hasn’t had any strategic success on the Kup’yansk direction.
As Syrskyi pointed out, the goal of the Russians is clear—they aim to reoccupy the city.
What’s the situation in the Kup’yansk area?
It’s worth noting that the aggressors intensified their activities in this area in mid-October. However, they haven’t made significant progress yet. Apart from the aforementioned goal, the Russian army is attempting to obstruct the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the south of Ukraine.
In particular, on October 15th, Syrskyi reported that the Russian forces began a strong push towards the Kup’yansk-Lymansky direction with the aim of surrounding Kup’yansk.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in the past day in the area of responsibility of the Joint Forces Operation ‘Khortytsya’ on the Kup’yansk direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault operations in the areas of the populated areas of Synkivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, and Nadiya in the Luhansk region, where Ukrainian defenders repelled more than 10 enemy attacks.
It’s worth mentioning that invaders first attempted to capture this city again in the summer, but that attempt proved unsuccessful.
