China declares that it will not supply weapons to Russia or Ukraine and promises to control military goods

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the People’s Republic of China will not supply weapons to Ukraine or Russia. He announced this at a press conference with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, according to the Associated Press news agency.

According to his words, China will not sell weapons to any party of the war. AP notes that Qin Gang is the highest-level Chinese official to make such a candid statement about arms supply.

He stated that Beijing will regulate the export of dual-use civilian and military goods.

“As for the export of military goods, China takes a sensible and responsible position. China will not supply weapons to conflicting parties, and will also control the export of dual-use goods in accordance with laws and regulations,” emphasized the diplomat.

Additionally, the head of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that China is ready to “help find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.”

On February 19, 2023, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned China that Russia’s assistance with weapons “will seriously complicate relations with the United States”.

On March 20th, the head of China arrived in Moscow for a meeting with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

On March 21st, The New York Times reported that after February 24th, 2022, China sold drones and spare parts to Russia for more than $12 million.
