“Today we continue our work in Washington, and very soon there will be a decision regarding the F-16s. We are increasing the number of aircraft available to Ukraine. Yesterday, we secured a decision for an additional 5 Patriots and dozens of other air defense systems for Ukraine; today, it’s about the aircraft,” emphasized Zelensky.

According to Zelensky, two new security agreements will also be signed.

“There, in the agreements, support for sanctions against Russia, support for our accession to the EU and NATO, support for our defense—our soldiers, all our people, and reconstruction. All this is included in the security agreements exactly as needed,” explained the head of state.

Additionally, the head of state informed that there will be at least ten negotiations with world leaders in Washington.

“I am grateful to our entire team for their activity. Today, there will be meetings in the U.S. Congress—with both parties, both chambers. We appreciate American support and today we will discuss how to achieve even better results in our cooperation with America—preferably far-reaching and long-term,” stated the president.

What is the US saying about F-16s for Ukraine?

According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Denmark and the Netherlands have already begun the process of transferring F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

“I am pleased to announce that as we speak, the transfer of F-16s is underway, from Denmark and the Netherlands. And these aircraft will be flying in Ukrainian skies this summer,” Blinken stated.

He also noted that in the coming weeks, partners will announce a significant military aid package for Ukraine.

“Meanwhile, the White House website published a joint statement by U.S. President Joe Biden, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen about the supply of F-16s to Ukraine.”

“The governments of Denmark and the Netherlands are in the process of transferring U.S.-manufactured F-16s to Ukraine with the support of the United States. The process of transferring these aircraft is currently underway, and Ukraine will begin flying F-16s this summer,” according to the joint statement.
