The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, stated that EU member states want Budapest to have time for negotiations and still join the EU’s common decision.
“Ukraine will receive 50 billion euros from the European Union anyway, and the postponement of the summit to the next year was not due to Hungary’s veto but to “give it time” to join this common decision of the bloc,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba during a television marathon interview.
If we talk about revealing the intricacies of European politics, the decision on the 50 billion was postponed to the beginning of the next year not because of Hungary’s veto but because the other 26 European countries are giving Hungary time to negotiate its accession. They do not want a situation where decisions are constantly made “minus one,”” said Kuleba.
He expressed confidence that the decision to allocate these 50 billion euros to Ukraine will be adopted.
“The question remains: either all 27 EU member states, including Hungary, which have been given a month for additional negotiations, will do it together, or these funds will be allocated by 26 EU countries without Hungary,” Kuleba said.
He emphasized that the only question here is the internal unity of the EU – whether it can be preserved. If not, the money for Ukraine will still be allocated, assured the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
