Austria will allocate 1 million euros for the activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Ukraine, announced the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg, at the IAEA General Conference in Vienna.
He reminded that there is an occupation of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, by Russian forces, and he highlighted the IAEA’s efforts in preventing nuclear incidents.
He also expressed full support for the IAEA and the five key principles that the Agency has developed for Ukraine.
19 months ago, Russia forcefully entered its sovereign neighbor, Ukraine. Since then, it has continued its irresponsible and unacceptable actions,” the statement reads.
This concerns a blatant violation of the UN Charter, the use of nuclear threats and blackmail, as well as the placement of nuclear weapons in Belarus, clarified Schallenberg.
“Russia has also demonstrated extreme disregard for the fundamental principles of the Agency and its work in the field of nuclear safety by occupying the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant,” the minister added.
