Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kirill Budanov stated in an interview with The War Zone that American tanks Abrams, the first batch of which is expected to arrive in Ukraine next week, will be used to break through the Russian defense.
He noted that Russian occupiers are actively mining the occupied territory with anti-tank mines and are using a significant number of kamikaze drones, so Abrams may not “last long” on the front lines.
The counteroffensive by the Defense Forces is mainly conducted without the use of armored vehicles, relying solely on infantry and artillery,” emphasized Budanov.
According to him, Abrams tanks should be used in “very well-planned operations.”
At the beginning of 2023, the United States promised Ukraine 31 Abrams M1A2 tanks.
President of the United States, Joe Biden, announced that the first batch of these tanks would arrive in Ukraine “next week.”
