Danilov: Killing of Prigozhin is a blow to Putin himself. Power transition has begun in Russia

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksiy Danilov, believes that the assassination of the leader of the Wagner terrorists, Yevgeny Prigozhin, marks the beginning of a power transition process in Russia. He announced this in an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

According to him, Prigozhin’s ‘rebellion’ in June couldn’t have occurred without the support of Russia’s security forces.

“Prigozhin wasn’t insane enough to decide on his own to stage this march. The people who were giving him directions to move towards Moscow, they stopped him. Moreover, everything that is happening will still have consequences. This isn’t the end of all these things that will be taking place in Russia,” Danilov stated.

He noted that in Russia, most likely, a power transition has begun, and the dictator Vladimir Putin is losing control over the country.

“And I can emphasize once again that the fragmentation of Russia has started, and it’s already happening. When the West doesn’t want to pay attention to this, doesn’t want to prepare for it, it’s a big mistake. And they need to understand that this will happen regardless of their desire,” stated the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.

The official dismissed the idea that Prigozhin’s killing would strengthen Putin’s power.

“This doesn’t correspond to reality at all. There’s nothing of the sort here. Moreover, it’s a blow to Putin himself. If planes are taking off from civilian airfields in Russia and something is happening in the air, keep in mind that something is amiss in this country,” he concluded.
