The Air Forces accept the conditions of the West: won’t strike into Russia with F-16s – Ignat

Ukraine will not strike deep into Russia with F-16 fighter jets, but their provision will help deter Russian ships in the Black Sea and enemy aviation on the frontlines. This was stated by the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Air Forces, Yuri Ignat, in a comment to LIGA.net.

“The F-16 is capable of defending Ukraine against missile terror, pushing Russian ships and aviation away, and gaining an advantage in the air,” emphasized Ignat.

He assured that Ukraine will fulfill the wishes of Western governments and will not strike into Russia from aircraft. Ukraine steadfastly adheres to this commitment regarding all the equipment received from partners, Ignat reminded.

“For every category of weaponry we receive, we take on the commitment not to strike within the territory of Russia. We acquire weapons for defense against aggression. And we honestly keep our word,” emphasized the spokesperson of the Air Forces.

The F-16 is a versatile aircraft capable of operating not only against airborne targets but also against ground and maritime targets,” stated Ignat. “The question lies in determining the type of armament to be mounted under its wings.”

“There are many options,” said Israeli Defense Army officer Igael Levin to LIGA.net. “The F-16 can effectively carry 95% of all available Western ordnance: ranging from various bombs with laser or GPS guidance to short and long-range air-to-air missiles.

These fighter jets can deter both enemy tactical aviation and strike helicopters from the frontline,” added Oleg Katkov, Chief Editor of Defense Express at LIGA.net.

“Furthermore, the aircraft can reinforce the rear anti-aircraft defense,” he added. “In particular, the F-16s will be able to more effectively engage cruise missiles due to their advanced radar station, which effectively detects targets against the background of the ground”.

“Naming an exact date for when the aircraft will appear in Ukraine is currently impossible,” emphasized Ignat.

“It all depends on how effectively our pilots’ training progresses, how quickly the ground personnel learn,” said the spokesperson of the Air Forces. “There are no doubts about the talent of the personnel,” he added.
