Denmark and the Netherlands will transfer F-16 fighters to Ukraine. After a similar announcement in the Netherlands, the Ministry of Defense of Denmark also officially stated this.
“The fighters have long been needed by Ukraine and are intended, among other things, to help Ukraine defend its airspace from unlawful Russian aggression,” the press release from the Danish Ministry of Defense states.
The department emphasized that Denmark will work to encourage other countries to join the aviation coalition.
“I am proud that Denmark, together with the Netherlands, will provide F-16 fighters to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom from Russia and against its senseless aggression. Denmark’s support for Ukraine is unwavering, and thanks to the donation of F-16 aircraft, Denmark is now a leader,” said the country’s Minister of Defense, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen.
At today’s press conference, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, in response to a question about the number of aircraft Ukraine will receive, stated that currently the Netherlands has 42 fighter aircraft, but the provided aviation support could be more.
