Overnight on July 23, Russia carried out a massive missile strike on Odessa. Among the targets was the largest Orthodox temple in the city. The photos were shared by the Odessa Eparchy of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate.
The Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral is located in the very center of Odessa on Soborna Square.
The temple first appeared at this location in 1808. However, in 1936, it was destroyed by the Soviet authorities. Before its destruction, the cathedral was looted.
The restoration of the cathedral took place during the times of Ukraine’s independence. The building was put into operation in 2005.
The cathedral belongs to the Odessa Eparchy of the Moscow Patriarchate.
