Turkey advocates for the fastest possible ‘just and lasting’ peace in Ukraine, which will pave the way for its NATO membership. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated this in Istanbul before departing for the NATO summit in Vilnius, as reported by Anadolu.
“We believe that the prompt cessation of the war and the establishment of a just and strong peace will contribute to Ukraine’s NATO membership process,” he said.
The head of the Turkish state, who seeks a personal meeting with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in August, noted that Ankara supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Erdogan added that Vilnius-2023 is taking place during a ‘critical’ period, and summit participants ‘plan to discuss very important decisions that will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening the defense of the Alliance.’
At the same time, decisions regarding Ukraine, adopted at the Madrid summit of the military-political bloc, are planned to be considered,” added the President of Turkey.
Today, on July 10, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba stated that the action plan regarding NATO membership will be excluded from Ukraine’s path to joining the Alliance.
