Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced during his visit to Kyiv the allocation of a new military aid package for Ukraine in the amount of $500 million. He also promised to transfer the Russian transport aircraft An-124, which was detained in Canada last year, to Ukraine.
“Since last year, we have provided Ukraine with over 8 billion dollars, as well as over a billion dollars in military aid. In addition, our budget has been expanded to include a two billion dollar government loan to support Ukraine’s reconstruction. We will provide 500 million dollars of new funding for military assistance,” he said.
In particular, Canada will transfer 287 additional missiles to the Armed Forces to protect Ukraine’s airspace, as well as 10,000 155-millimeter caliber shells,” the Prime Minister said. Trudeau also announced that Canada will participate in multinational efforts to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
Furthermore, the head of the Canadian government promised to continue exerting sanctions pressure on Russia. In particular, he pledged to transfer the Russian transport aircraft An-124, which was detained in Canada last year, to Ukraine.
Trudeau also promised to impose new sanctions against the Russian Federation.
“At this moment, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 2,500 organizations and individuals, and today we are announcing a new package of sanctions against 24 individuals and 17 organizations as part of special economic measures for Ukraine,” he noted.
Trudeau also condemned Russia for its destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. He promised to provide financial assistance to Ukraine.
“We have witnessed the catastrophic consequences associated with the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. It was a direct result of the Russian aggression. To provide assistance, today I am announcing support in the amount of $10 million, along with an additional $7.5 million of previously allocated aid to Ukraine, to respond to the flood,” said the Prime Minister of Canada.
Today, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in Kyiv for an unannounced visit. A joint declaration with President Volodymyr Zelensky has been adopted.
