What is known about the catastrophic situation of the occupiers in the area of Bakhmut?

“Until recently, the monopolist in Bahmut was Prigozhin with his criminal group. Prigozhin even threatened to seize the entire Donetsk region. The significant losses on the Bahmut front forced Prigozhin to involve regular Russian forces, airborne and motorized infantry units of the occupiers. However, they were not prepared for combat actions,” Cherevaty states.

He emphasized that the junior officer corps of the criminal Russian army is incapable of commanding. As stated by the spokesperson of the Eastern grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, for this reason, senior officers are forced to take command of combat operations.

“The fact that several senior officers were on the battlefield and commanded the troops at the platoon level indicates that the junior commanders were unable to handle the situation. Russian colonels had to resort to crisis management. Of course, our intelligence and artillery took advantage of this, destroying these colonels and demoralizing the Russian personnel,” explained Cherevaty.

What is known about the deaths of Russian colonels near Bahmut?

According to BBC Ukraine, on Sunday, two colonels were reported dead at the Russian Ministry of Defense. According to the version provided by the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country, the colonels died on the front lines while personally directing the actions of the Russian army’s occupation units in repelling attacks by Ukrainian forces.

“Commander of the 4th Motorized Infantry Brigade, Colonel Vyacheslav Makarov, while being on the front line, personally led the battle. Two enemy attacks were repelled. The brigade’s servicemen destroyed three tanks, four infantry fighting vehicles, and two armored vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. During the repulsion of the third attack, the brigade commander was severely wounded and died during evacuation”, as stated in the statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The second liquidated Colonel, Yevhen Brovko, held the position of Deputy Commander of the Army Corps for military-political work and “directed the actions of personnel while being located in a different area of the counterattack,” and he died as a result of sustaining multiple injuries.

It is noted that both Colonels died near the village of Ivanivske near Bakhmut. Ivanivske is located on the left flank of the Wagner Private Military Company units, who are engaged in combat for Bakhmut. In the past few days, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have intensified their actions in these areas.

The 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade mentioned in the report was previously one of the armed formations created in 2014 within the “Luhansk People’s Republic” (“LNR”). It was part of the so-called 2nd Corps of the “LNR” and on December 31, 2022, it, along with other formations, was officially integrated into the Russian armed forces.

Therefore, in Russia, it is already referred to as part of the Russian army. However, on the other hand, it still differs from the Russian Armed Forces in terms of personnel and weaponry.
