Zelensky met with the envoy of the President of Brazil and said, ‘Peace will only be on Ukraine’s terms’

President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the representative of the President of Brazil, Celso Amorim, in Kyiv. He announced this on Twitter.

According to his words, during the negotiations, he emphasized that the only way to stop Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is the Ukrainian formula for peace, which entails regaining control over the borders of 1991, reparations, and punishment for war criminals.

Zelensky stated that the possibility of holding a Ukraine-Latin America summit was discussed.

The head of state emphasized that he is looking forward to continuing the dialogue with Brazilian leader Lula da Silva and once again invites him to Ukraine.

Earlier, Lula da Silva stated his desire to act as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia in peaceful negotiations and help the parties ‘find a common ground’ between their goals.

On April 16, 2023, Lula called for the creation of a group of “neutral” countries specifically for initiating peaceful negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, suggesting China and the United Arab Emirates as possible participants. He also stated that the war is being “encouraged” by the United States and the West. In Washington, his proposal was criticized as pro-Russian.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that comparing the victim and the aggressor and accusing countries that provide military assistance to the victim of aggression of ‘encouraging war’ does not reflect reality. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed the invitation to Mr. Silva to visit Ukraine in order to demonstrate to him on-site the consequences of Russian aggression and its implications for global security.
