Canada will transfer assault rifles, ammunition, and machine guns to Ukraine. This was announced by the country’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a joint briefing with the head of the Ukrainian government, Denys Shmyhal, who is currently on a visit to Canada.
Trudeau emphasized that Canada is helping Ukraine defend itself by providing military aid, including tanks, weapons, and ammunition. He announced a new package of military assistance for Ukraine.
Canada will send 21,000 assault rifles, 38 machine guns, and 2.4 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine.
In the 2023 Canadian federal budget, Canada has allocated $1.8 billion in financial and military aid to Ukraine. In March, Canada extended a program created to support Ukrainians affected by the Russian invasion.
Announcing a visit to Canada, Shmyhal stated that Ukraine needs heavy armored vehicles and ammunition for howitzers and tanks in order to organize a counteroffensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
