“No step back”: Russian soldiers are given a brochure justifying the invasion of Ukraine

Russian military released a brochure for soldiers being sent to Ukraine, with a large portion of the document dedicated to ideological justification for the war.

Details: The cover of the brochure released by the Western Military District features a map of Ukraine, which does not include Crimea, while the territories of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions are marked in red (other regions occupied by Russia are not marked in any way).

In a Russian military brochure, they argue that the US has allegedly decided to “destabilize” Russia, faced with a “resource deficit”. Accordingly, the United States has wanted to “suck all the juices” out of Russia.

Therefore, according to the authors of the brochure, Russia is being attempted to be conquered “by foreign hands” and “disintegrated.”

“The Western countries are no longer satisfied with the “honorable capitulation” of Russia. Their goal is to plunge the country into chaos and anarchy, destroy statehood, and disintegrate the country,” the brochure says.

Russian invaders are also convinced that “active Nazis” and perpetrators of “numerous bloody crimes of the Kiev regime” deserve nothing but to be “brought to justice”.

Discussing the Russian retreat in the autumn of 2022, the authors of the brochure extensively quote the famous Stalin’s Order No. 227, better known as “Not a Step Backward!”.

The document signed by Stalin prohibited soldiers from retreating without appropriate orders, ordered to “exterminate” “panic-mongers and cowards” on the spot, introduced barrier troops as part of armies and penal battalions, where soldiers who violated discipline “due to cowardice or instability” were sent at the command’s decision.

Two unnamed contractors told the publication that before the full-scale invasion in February 2022, the Russian military did not distribute such brochure.
